Employment Law Seminar: How to Conduct Effective Workplace Investigations
In a perfect world, internal workplace investigations would never be required because employers would only employ perfect people with no problems, concerns or complaints. In reality, however, employees have many issues often necessitating workplace investigations. If an investigation is handled properly, employers are able to diffuse most workplace problems and/or provide a very strong defense to any subsequent legal challenges. This lively and interactive breakfast series will review how to conduct a truly effective workplace investigation and answer the following:
Why conduct an investigation at all?
What legal defenses can an effective investigation provide?
How do you handle “off the record” complaints?
How should you respond initially to the complaint and complaining party?
How should you conduct the interview with the complaining party?
How should you conduct interviews with alleged harasser and third parties?
Should you promise confidentiality?
When do you know the investigation is adequate and complete?
What should you document?
How should you conclude the process?
Join Bryan P. O’Connor, a partner with Jackson Lewis LLP, as he goes over the “dos” and “don'ts” of an effective workplace investigation. While all are welcome, this program is designed for business owners, managers, HR professionals, lawyers and anyone else who handles workplace investigations.
